For those with particularly romantic sensibilities, the Commitment Rock is the perfect backdrop for any wedding or vow renewal ceremony. Once partially buried on the side of Snyder Country Road, not far from the main entrance to the estate, this rock served as the meeting and courting place for Mr. Neal’s parents, Albert and Bertie Neal. As Albert Neal wrote, “In 1934 this stone laid across a mud road, affording a platform for two fourteen year olds to get out of the mud and talk. While getting to know each other better, a romance developed that lasted a lifetime.” In 1939, five years after their first meeting, Albert and Bertie were married. The rock where they fell in love has been relocated to the grounds of Linbrook Hall and adorned with a plaque honoring their love and life-long devotion to each other. The Commitment Rock provides a touching backdrop for any couple’s special day.
